Rush Limbaugh...staying classy.

One of these days I'll wise up and stop posting the insane things that Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck spew, but that day is not today.

Some of you may have seen the clip from Barney Frank's town hall meeting in Dartmouth in which he pretty much said what I wish every other politician who is getting ambushed with illegitimate questions would say. A woman holding an Obama-as-Hitler poster asked Frank why he continues to support Obama's Nazi policies. Ah, power to the people. The clip below from the Limbaugh show has the audio, which is wonderful, but the main thing here is the joke Limbaugh makes. It comes at the very end and it's as offensive as it is obvious and unfunny. I love off-color humor more than anyone I know, but this is just lame. So lame.

Some people have NO sense of humor. Those of us that aren't so "touchy-feeley" think that was funny as hell!

But see that's just it, poaffy. I don't have a touchy-feeley sense of humor. I love off-color jokes. The problem is that making such a weak homophobic joke is, well, weak. It's not clever. And it's especially problematic because he's using Frank's sexual orientation as a way to marginalize him. I know Limbaugh is a master showman, but I think even this sort of joke is beneath him.

But the thing is Kraig, it's so funny when Whoopi Goldberg and others marginalize Rush, but not visa versa. The Left can dish it out but they whine so loud when it's directed them...even in jest.

That's true for some people, sure. And believe me, there are lame and offensive jokes made about Rush that I think are unfunny. I love Bill Maher, but I roll my eyes when he resorts to simple and repetitive cheap shots at Rush's weight. To me, it's not left vs. right, though. A bad joke is a bad joke. But I guess if Rush hadn't demonstrated himself to be anti-gay on so many other occassions, a flat joke like this would be okay. It's the weak joke coupled with his previous comments on homosexuality that make it offensive. That said, and I think this is important, neither the left nor the right are some sort of monolithic group. I don't take time to criticize Whoopi because who the fuck listens to Whoopi? I sure don't.
