"A man barely alive. Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology."

A few quick notes to get this started:

1) I'm sort of flummoxed by the absolute dearth of .com domain names still available. I know domain squatting has been around for years (hell, I owned ScorpionKing.com for awhile---and I'm not proud of it), but is there any reason why letsbakeacake.com is already spoken for? Yes, for a brief moment I considered such a name. I like cake and entertained the idea, albeit for less than a minute, of becoming a cake-baking-blogger spectacular. But no. Instead Billy Beshears of Rainbow City, AL owns it...and isn't even baking cakes! Also not available--getinmybed.com AND getinmybednow.com. However, if you're a patient person, getinmybedlater.com is available. I have neither patience nor a bed, so that was out, too. Other domain names that were available and ultimately rejected: superkraig.com (too on the nose), hastenthedemise.com (too classy), chumscum.com (short and catchy but kind of gross), and dingthat.com. I actually went ahead and bought dingthat.com as it references a line from my favorite movie of all time, Kicking and Screaming. More on dingthat.com at a later date.

2) And thus was chosen boyhatesgirl.com, a name that one must question why I even checked its availability in the first place. The mind works in mysterious ways. No need to go there. But let's just say that it's short, the words are all monosyllabic, and it's easy enough to remember that if you find yourself without your bookmarks, it ain't so hard to remember "Boy Hates Girl.com." Those words are already on the lips of many of my guy friends (Brian), so the name is just a natural progression.

3) I opted to start this whole new blog---separate from Facebook and MySpace---because there are things I want to do that those sites are simply not good at doing. I've grown tired of only writing "inspired" blogs. As you can tell by the paucity of recent entries on MySpace, inspiration rarely strikes. What does strike more often is the desire to post a few words here and there, a link to this or that, and to try out a few different blogging gizmos. You can expect more frequent posts, guest bloggers, dueling blogs and, making its debut on Thursday night, Live Blogging. Yes, on Thursday night I will launch a gizmo that will (hopefully) allow me to live-blog during the Vice Presidential debate. As you watch the debate you will hear a "typing" sound indicating I've made some witty, urbane comment about the debate. This will inevitably annoy both you and me.

Anyhoo, welcome.

Congrats on finally getting your own blog. You've finally caught up to where everyone else was in 1998.

Well, I don't hang from the rafters if that's what you mean. I have a bed-like object. It's a futon. There. I said it. I'm a NYC cliche. A single guy with a futon.

Is the futon directly on the floor or do you have one of those renewable wood-type frames to allow storage space for all your new yorky stuff underneath it? Please say yes.

What about boylovesgirlbutgirlisambivalentaboutboy.com?

Yes, it's a wood frame. Your fancy eco-word "renewable" is lost on me, however. Does that mean I can plant it and grow baby futon frames?

As for your domain name suggestion, yes, it's available. Also...ouch.
